Intel introduced the technology ThunderboltTm.

Intel has announced a new high-speed ThunderboltTm for the PC, which will combine high-speed data and HD-video.
Technology Thunderbolt, supporting the exchange of data at a speed of 10 Gbit / c, allows the transfer of HD-video with no compression less than 30 seconds. This interface, developed by Intel, will be launched in cooperation with Apple, and will be first implemented in the new line of laptops Apple MacBook Pro.
Technology ThunderboltTm (formerly codenamed "Light Peak) is designed for ultra-fast communication and easy connection of devices. It combined high speed data and HD-video with one cable on the basis of two protocols: PCI Express allows you to connect to a wide range of devices, DisplayPort - to transmit the image resolution than 1080p and up to eight audio channels simultaneously.
ThunderboltTm interface is compatible with DisplayPort and existing adapters. Devices that support ThunderboltTm, have a common connector and allow you to connect devices one after the other.
Technology ThunderboltTm meets the requirements of professionals working with HD-video. Operators can use the device with a high capacity to capture or mixing of video and audio, and receive the results of processing in real time with low latency and precise timing. Due to bandwidth to 10 Gbit / s, and multimedia files are transferred faster, less time spent on the preview and edit video, and access to archival content. In mobile devices (especially in ultrathin laptops) by installing a single connector space savings. Opportunities HD-panel displays and high-speed devices in homes and offices is increasing. ThunderboltTm complements other standard input / output data, supported by Intel.
